Shown in profile with her eyes gently closed, the woman seems withdrawn from the world around her. The painting feels suspended in silence, inviting the viewer to wonder whether she is resting, remembering, or refusing to look. The mystery lies not in what is shown, but in what is withheld.
This portrait is deeply inspired from the Rembrandt painting “Study of a woman in a white cap”, that I copied as part of the Leiden collection.
It also features one of the oldest models working at the florence academy of art.
