This painting was inspired by the Rembrandt painting that I copied as part of the Leiden collection. Furthermore it contains strong influences from a Drypoint etching by Käthe Kollwitz and the painting “La Vecchia” by Giorgione.

The Model featured here is one of the oldest models working in florence, at the florence academy of art which adds another layer of significance to the painting.

It was painted over 5 weeks, entirely from life. Oil on canvas.

Dimensions are 80 cm x 65 cm, essentialy life size.
